wrought iron coffee table

Once upon a time...

wrought iron furniture and accessories were only available to the aristocracy. Beautifully hand-forged and costly, these were the original designs of gifted artisans and proof of the position and power of the owner.

For the average peasant, the use of wrought iron was limited to necessities like tools and utensils. The one thing that these opposite ends of the social spectrum had in common was an appreciation for the strength and durability of wrought iron.

Times changed, the divisions in the social spectrum blurred, and wrought iron furniture and accessories began to appear commonly in all walks of life. Popular in Europe for centuries, this so-called "Mediterranean" look became equally popular in America. The beauty and durability so prized by the wealthy also made wrought iron popular with the average family.

Items made of wrought iron were functional, beautiful, and practically indestructible.

As more and more people recognized the advantages of wrought iron, the popularity of wrought iron furniture and accessories skyrocketed. Orders soon began to overwhelm the limited number of blacksmiths available to create these pieces. To meet the increased demand, wrought iron furniture and accessories began to be mass-produced. While this made the items more affordable, the originality and quality of the past were sacrificed in the process. Instead of one unique piece, hundreds of identical wrought iron tables, chairs, mirrors, and such began to flood the market.

iron rose headWrought Iron Furniture and Accessories became "THE LOOK."

However, as with all things, the novelty of wrought iron furniture and accessories began to fade. Other " Looks" came and went, and wrought iron drifted out of vogue.

Almost like the Sleeping Beauty of fairy tale fame, wrought iron waited " asleep" for the special "kiss" that would re-invent it.

That "kiss" proved to be the "Return to Basics" trends in home building. The cabin became the dream home and along with it came the need for rustic furniture and accessories. What better than wrought iron to fulfill this need.

Once again, wrought iron furniture and accessories were in demand. This time, however, people wanted pieces as individual as their home.

Enter the artist blacksmiths!

These talented artisans brought wrought iron into its own again in the manner of the blacksmiths of old - one piece at a time. Everything from wrought iron fireplace tools and screens to wrought iron gates and arbors, and furniture for home and garden was brought to life from the rich imagination of these gifted individuals. This was only a start, however.

The versatility of wrought iron made it equally suitable for any style.

From simple rustic to ornate Victorian to sleek modern, wrought iron had again become the choice for quality furniture and accessories.

We at Great Circle Forge are proud to represent some of the finest artist blacksmiths in the country. Their priceless talent has created the beautiful wrought iron furniture and accessories pictured here.

We welcome you to our world - a world of unique beauty.

We hope you enjoy your visit!!
